The Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef are among the most remarkable natural environments. From vibrant coral reefs and secluded islands to diverse marine life and rich natural beauty, these destinations offer unforgettable experiences both on and beneath the water.
As a tourism operator privileged to work within this environment, we recognise the importance of protecting it for future generations. Sustainability and responsible tourism are an important part of how we operate, helping ensure these special places can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.
Sustainability Statement
Explore Group is committed to our role as a responsible tourism operator and contributing to a sustainable global future. The environment we operate in is central to our business and the unique experiences in amazing places we deliver to our customers. We recognise that for the continued sustainability of both the regions we operate in and our own business we must operate an environmentally and socially responsible business model. As a result, sustainability is a critical element of any business decisions we make.
We regularly review our operation to identify and implement new sustainability initiatives, strive for continuous improvement on existing initiatives, and identify external initiatives that we can support. Our current internal initiatives include a sustainability focus within our staff training programme, preference for engaging with local suppliers, engaging with traditional landowners, reducing single use waste, responsible waste management, using and advocating for use of reef safe sunscreen and an energy reduction policy. We also contribute to external initiatives such as the Eye of the Reef monitoring program and Hamilton Island Marina rubbish collection program.
Our Commitment
We’re proud to be ECO Certified at the Ecotourism level by Ecotourism Australia, recognising our commitment to responsible tourism and sustainable operations in the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef. This certification reflects our focus on delivering high-quality nature-based experiences while helping to protect and preserve the incredible environments we operate in for future generations.
Proudly operating within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, we’re committed to helping protect one of the world’s most environmentally significant marine ecosystems.
As part of our commitment to sustainable tourism, we encourage guests to travel responsibly and help protect the Whitsundays and Great Barrier Reef for future generations. Small actions can make a big difference when exploring these unique environments.
